How important is coffee to Italians?

Italians love coffee more than anything! You can take away their mobile phone, their pizza, but not their coffee! Never…

In Italy, there are so many coffee shops that even ordinary people know how to make the perfect espresso. You don’t have to go to fancy coffee shops, just visit a simple coffee shop and you can enjoy delicious hot coffee made by a machine (coffee machines are available in most coffee shops). An expert on Italian coffee said: “Without Italy, there is no Starbucks. Without coffee, Italy cannot develop”.

However, the best coffee is not grown in Italy but roasted and flavored in Italy! Good coffee beans are a prerequisite for good coffee. Only masters of coffee roasting can create the best coffee beans.

Coffee beans and roasting methods

–Italian coffee mainly uses Arabica beans to create the best flavor with low caffeine content. People in the South of Italy like to mix Arabica with Robusta for a stronger flavor and more caffeine.

–Italians in different regions roast and marinate coffee according to their own secret recipes, so the coffee has different flavors. Italian coffee is brown, with little or no oil, while French coffee is dark brown, with a lot of oil.

When do Italians drink coffee?

Italians only drink coffee while eating breakfast, not with lunch or dinner. Italians only drink coffee after meals because the acid in coffee does not harm the stomach like when hungry, and is good for digestion. If you want to drink Espresso, just say “caffe”. Espresso is served in a small, thick ceramic cup, not a large, disposable cup like Starbucks. Espresso means “drink quickly”. If you drink it right at the bar (while standing), you will pay less than when sipping coffee at the table (about 4 times). Never order a cappuccino after 11am (a famous drink that Italians only drink in the morning).
