How does drinking coffee with lots of chemicals affect health?

“Currently, it can be said that the Vietnamese market is flooded with fake goods (foreign goods, foreign goods counterfeiting foreign goods), especially in markets and rural areas. It is best to be a smart consumer when buying any product and carefully check the product packaging.”

Ms. Nguyen Minh Huong, representative of the Ho Chi Minh City Association for Anti-Trade Fraud and Consumer Support, shared.

It is not true that Chinese goods flooding into Vietnam are fake because there are still products of Chinese origin imported and sold by Vietnamese enterprises.

* I want to ask if it is possible to identify fake or quality goods with the naked eye when carefully examining the information on the packaging. Besides, my house is in the countryside, so how can I buy genuine goods when there are no reputable supermarkets? I hope that the relevant authorities will take strong action when they detect them so that consumers do not lose money. (Tran Van Toan, 22 years old, toan.tranvan91@…)

– Ms. Nguyen Minh Huong: It is true that it is not certain that fake or poor quality goods can be identified with the naked eye; in rural or remote areas, in my opinion, consumers should only buy products that they know well. For new products, they should apply the method of trial purchase and if they find the product good, they will continue to buy it. I also agree with your opinion, the state authorities need to strictly handle the production and trading of counterfeit and poor quality goods to protect the rights of consumers.

* Doctor, I just started drinking coffee but I feel dizzy, nauseous and my heart beats fast, sometimes I can smell coffee when I urinate. So am I drinking fake coffee? (Lam Y Nhi, 25 years old, Nhilam@…)

– Doctor Luong Le Hoang: The symptoms just described are not enough to confirm that the coffee user is drinking fake coffee. But one thing is certain, the way of using coffee from the dosage to the frequency is too much for the sensitive organs of the coffee drinker. If you want to continue drinking coffee, you should drink it more diluted, less often or choose the decaffeinated type.

* I have to drink at least 2 cups of coffee every day at work, and if I don’t have coffee, I feel lethargic. Doctor, can you tell me if I’m addicted to coffee?

And if the coffee I’m drinking makes me so alert, is it real coffee? (Thach, 28 years old, sakura_11b6@…)

– Dr. Luong Le Hoang: Due to its stimulating effect on the nervous system, people who are used to drinking coffee will of course feel lethargic without coffee.

* May I ask how effective is coffee in medicine for health? (Tu Duy, 25 years old, tuduy@…)

– Dr. Luong Le Hoang: Coffee was originally a medicine to treat asthma in the 17th century. Coffee became a popular drink all over the world when people discovered its benefits through its beneficial effects on the nervous system and motor system. Similar to drugs, the effectiveness of coffee depends on the specific application of frequency and dosage. Using coffee in moderation is a health protection measure if you understand coffee correctly.

This condition does not mean coffee addiction. Coffee users feel alert thanks to the active ingredient caffeine in coffee.

This does not help distinguish between real coffee and fake coffee if there is still caffeine in the mixed coffee.

But what is certain is that users of fake coffee, even if they are temporarily alert, will definitely be tired and susceptible to illness when used for a long time.

* How does drinking coffee with a lot of chemicals affect health? (Ro, 33 years old, tranthuy_dantam@…)

– Dr. Luong Le Hoang – Hyperbaric Oxygen Center: Not only with coffee, food additives, if not guaranteed to be safe in chemical structure, are one of the causes leading to resistance disorders, metabolism, and are a burden on detoxification organs such as the liver, kidneys, intestines, and skin. Therefore, using pure coffee is an important form of nutrition to protect health.

* Doctor, I often get mouth ulcers when drinking coffee. My mother said it was because the coffee was hot. Is that correct? How can I know if the coffee I often drink is mixed with chemicals? (Lan Anh, 29 years old, vienanh7116@…)

– Doctor Luong Le Hoang: Drinking coffee (hot or iced) is rarely the cause of mouth ulcers, but it can be the reason for esophagitis. Mouth ulcers can occur in people who are allergic to certain additives in impure coffee. Of course, consumers find it difficult to know whether the coffee is mixed with chemicals or not. It is best to choose products from reputable manufacturers, brands, and especially those that guarantee the purity of the coffee.

* Does drinking fake coffee for a long time cause cancer? I often get mouth ulcers every time I drink coffee. Is fake coffee the cause of this problem? (Nguyen Minh Phuc, 42 years old, minhphuc1912@…)

– Doctor Luong Le Hoang: If you use pure coffee and do not abuse the dosage, consumers will certainly not have health problems such as mouth ulcers, anxiety, constipation, etc. Additives, chemicals, flavorings, and flavorings in fake coffee are of course very harmful to health. Some chemicals in fake coffee are even on the list of toxins that can cause cancer or chronic diseases. Using pure coffee with the manufacturer’s safety assurance is not just a remedy. It is a form of safety for consumers.

* How is the implementation of anti-fraud being carried out? How is it handled? Is there a direct reporting channel? (Tu Duy, 25 years old, tuduy@…)

– Ms. Nguyen Minh Huong: The work of combating trade fraud and counterfeit goods has been thoroughly implemented by the Vietnamese government to many functional agencies, specifically the Ministry of Industry and Trade (market management force), the Ministry of Public Security, the General Department of Customs, and the Border Guard.

Within their authority, these agencies inspect, control, and arrest trade fraud and counterfeit goods in the domestic market, at the border and at border gates. To coordinate the work between the above agencies, the Government established the Central Steering Committee on Combating Trade Fraud and Counterfeit Goods (often referred to as Committee 127), whose members include leaders of the above ministries and agencies.

* Counterfeit goods are now flooding the market, and sellers of counterfeit goods still find ways to justify themselves, proving that their goods are genuine, and eventually buyers want to be confused among the pile of real and fake goods. According to the guests, what criteria are used to evaluate genuine and fake goods? (Truong Thanh Tien, 38 years old, thanhtien2197@…)

– Ms. Nguyen Minh Huong: From a legal perspective, evaluating fake coffee can be:

– Fake coffee in terms of trademark (for example: coffee products of unit A but with the trademark of Vinacafé), fake geographical indications (for example: Long Khanh coffee (Dong Nai) but said to be Buon Me Thuot coffee) (Definition of fake goods according to the Law on Intellectual Property).

– Fake coffee in terms of quality, for example: the packaging says 100% coffee but in reality the coffee content in the product is only 50% or for example, the product packaging says ground coffee but the ingredients do not contain coffee but only soybeans, popcorn and coffee flavoring) (Definition according to Article 3 of Decree No. 06/2008/ND-CP dated January 16, 2008 on administrative sanctions in the field of trade and Point 1 of Joint Circular No. 10/2000/TTLT-BTM-BTV-BCA-BKHCNMT dated April 27, 2000 guiding the implementation of Directive No. 31/1999/CT-TTG dated October 27, 1999 of the Prime Minister on the fight against counterfeit goods).

* Dear Doctor, I have also been addicted to coffee for several years now. Before, drinking coffee at a coffee shop felt normal, but now drinking coffee at a coffee shop makes me feel uncomfortable and nauseous. When I buy coffee and make it myself at home, I don’t feel that way. But the feeling of enjoying it at a coffee shop is better, now I can’t bring my coffee to a shop and ask them to make it for me. Please give me some advice. (Nguyen Anh Trung, 32 years old, anhtrung2704@…)
