Some things to do when drinking coffee

From a nutritional and health perspective, coffee has many benefits as well as some drawbacks. If consumed in appropriate amounts and in the right way, this beverage can have positive effects on human health.

Coffee contains caffeine — a stimulant that excites the nervous system more strongly than tea because the caffeine content in coffee is much higher than in tea. Coffee helps to dilate and constrict the bronchial branches, affects the cardiovascular system by increasing the heart’s blood supply capacity, raises the heartbeat, and has certain therapeutic effects on low blood pressure and asthma. Additionally, drinking coffee can increase appetite, promote nutrient absorption, and enhance metabolism in the body.

Things to keep in mind when drinking coffee:

  1. Avoid brewing coffee that is too strong
Some people, engrossed in work or study, tend to drink very strong coffee to stimulate their mind. However, this can be harmful to health. Drinking overly strong coffee can cause rapid heartbeat, increased blood pressure, and other unusual symptoms such as restlessness, irritability, anxiety, ringing in the ears, and trembling hands and feet. For those with high blood pressure or coronary artery disease, it may even lead to heart attacks.

  2. Do not add too much sugar to coffee
Adding a moderate amount of sugar can enhance the coffee’s flavor. However, drinking coffee with excessive sugar may stimulate insulin cells in the pancreas and organs, causing a drop in blood sugar levels, which in turn disrupts sugar metabolism in the body.

  3. Do not leave brewed coffee sitting for too long
Coffee that has been brewed and left too long may lose its aroma and develop a bitter taste.

  4. Do not drink coffee and alcohol at the same time
Drinking coffee immediately after alcohol can overly stimulate the brain, then suppress the nervous system, dilate blood vessels, and increase blood circulation. This puts extra strain on the heart and damages health. Such damage can be many times worse than drinking alcohol alone.
